A passenger named Mahi has left Tk 30 and a handwritten note at the ticket counter of Bogura railway station. He had travelled by train without a ticket and later felt remorse. Although he bought a ticket for the return trip, he did not forget to pay the fare for the earlier journey. His gesture has sparked discussion on social media.
The money and the note were left at the ticket counter on Saturday (10 October) evening at Bogura railway station.
Mahi wrote in the note, ‘I am Mahi. I went to Santahar on 7 September. In the rush while going, I did not get time to buy a ticket. But I bought a ticket on the way back. So I am leaving this Tk 30.’
Mahi gave no identification in the note other than his name. For that reason, his detailed identity could not be known.
Sajedur Rahman Saju, station master of Bogura railway station, said passengers deserve praise for this kind of awareness. However, those travelling by train should come to the station with enough time in hand. He also remarked that had the person who left the money and the note in this way made his identity known, he could have been thanked.
The station master further said the railway is public property, so everyone should come forward conscientiously for its maintenance and protection.
