The prime minister’s additional press secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon has said the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was subjected to inhuman torture during the time of the 1/11 government. He still carries the memory of that torture.
In his speech, he said that if we remain busy only with taking revenge for five years, the goal with which the people of Bangladesh made our dear leader prime minister through their votes will not be fulfilled. Our dear leader Tarique Rahman wants to leave the unbearable memories of the past behind and take the country’s development forward.
He said this at a discussion meeting organised by Uttaranchal Chhatra Forum at the National Press Club in the capital on Wednesday morning on the occasion of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s 19th release-from-prison day.
Atikur Rahman Rumon mentioned that 3 September is the release-from-prison day of our dear leader and current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He was arrested without a warrant and subjected to inhuman torture. He carries that memory even today. However, he himself has said he does not want to remember those days. If we walk the path of revenge, it will not end even in five years.

He further said that when the BNP ran the country, a conspiracy began at home and abroad to demean our dear leader. We must remain alert to this conspiracy so that his good works are not ruined.
His call was that BNP leaders, particularly those of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, work together to make Tarique Rahman’s good initiatives successful.
Atikur Rahman Rumon recalled that BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had said the people are the source of all power. The people have proved that through the War of Independence, the anti-Ershad movement and the fall of the 1/11 government. Most recently, in July, they also ousted Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic rule through the combined effort of students, the people and various political parties.
He said that today, on our dear leader’s 19th release-from-prison day, the bad times of the past are floating before our eyes. For the last 19 years we have observed this day on time. However, today’s situation is no longer like those bad times.
Reminiscing, he said that at that time, threats from the autocracy, imprisonment and various kinds of torture had to be endured in observing the day. Yet no one stopped. BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Information Minister Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho and State Minister for Land Barrister Mir Helal provided important cooperation in observing the day.
He said journalists had been informed of the organising of the programme only two to three hours beforehand. Many journalists extended extraordinary cooperation, as a result of which publicity and enthusiasm were obtained and the programme was successful.
The prime minister’s additional press secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon presided over the meeting. Present were the prime minister’s political adviser and BNP acting secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, State Minister for Land and adviser to Uttaranchal Chhatra Forum Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Dhaka district Swechchhasebak Dal convener Nazmul Hasan, Amra BNP Paribar member secretary agriculturist Mokshedul Momin Mithun and other leaders.
