‘Love knows no barriers’ — a couple in India seem to have proved this familiar adage true. Brushing aside a huge difference in age, a 75-year-old man and a 30-year-old social media influencer are about to be bound in the bond of love. The incident is from Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh in India. Nobody stood in the way of this couple’s unequal love either. Despite the 45-year age gap, their engagement was formally completed recently and their families too have confirmed preparations for the wedding.
It has been learnt from an India Today report that the couple — Ramsughar, 75, a resident of Ariyari village in the Sahar area of Auraiya, and Reena Rajput, 30, a resident of Dayalpur under the Sadar Kotwali limits — exchanged rings at a beauty parlour in Auraiya a week ago. The remaining formalities of their wedding will be completed according to religious rites after Navratri, it has been learnt.
Ramsughar said Reena Rajput had been visiting their home for two years. With time, they became acquainted with each other and began to grow closer.
Ramsughar’s daughter Radha is also a content creator. She said her mother died seven years ago. Radha and Reena used to make video content together for social media. It was in the course of making videos that Reena began visiting their home regularly, and in the midst of the work Reena and Ramsughar became attracted to each other.
On the huge age gap of 45 years, Reena Rajput said she has no problem with the difference and that she is extremely happy about the decision to marry Ramsughar. Reena said, ‘Age can be no barrier when it comes to love.’ Both are ready to begin a new chapter of life.
Meanwhile, as soon as the video of their ring exchange was published on Instagram and social media, it spread rapidly and gave rise to widespread discussion among netizens.
Many have congratulated the couple. Some, however, have raised the question of whether this is a ‘publicity stunt’ to gain views on social media or to win overnight popularity. The veracity of such claims, however, could not be confirmed. At present both families are planning to finalise the date and complete the arrangements for a wedding with much fanfare.
