Police have arrested father-in-law Lalu Das, 45, at Bhullee in Thakurgaon in a case filed over the allegation of attempting to rape his son’s wife. He was sent to jail through the court on Friday.
Earlier, he was arrested from the Board Office Bazar area of the upazila at about 2:30am on Thursday night. Although Lalu Das is a resident of Thakurgaon town, he was currently living in Bhullee upazila.
It has been learnt from the case and police sources that at about 8:00am on 4 October the husband of the victim housewife went to the market for professional work. At that time, when the housewife went to wash her hands and face at the tube well of the house, her father-in-law Lalu Das grabbed her from behind and tried to rape her, it has been alleged. When the woman bit her father-in-law’s hand in self-defence and screamed, he fled.
Over the incident, the victim woman’s husband filed a case as plaintiff against his own father Lalu Das with Bhullee police station on 5 October.
Nure Alam Siddiqui, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhullee police station, said Lalu Das has been arrested on the allegation of attempted rape. After preliminary interrogation, when he was sent to court on Friday noon, the judge ordered him to be sent to jail.
