The mini-series ‘Mayar Songsar’ begins airing on YouTube on 26 October. It will be available on the Cinemawala YouTube channel every Monday and Tuesday from 12 noon. Md Omar Faruk has written the screenplay for and directed the series, which is about the strains within a joint family in the capital, Dhaka.
At the centre of the story is a family — the parents, three children and other members. The father is a retired schoolteacher. Although the two sons live in the same household, they do not pay for their parents’ expenses.
The family’s only daughter has reached marriageable age. At one point it is she who takes up the fight for her parents. The cast includes Nader Chowdhury, Monira Mithu, Samira Khan Mahi, Jonayed Bogdadi, Syed Musafir Bachchu and Erfan Mridha Shiblu, among others. Drama maker and producer Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Raz is producing it under the Cinemawala banner.
Director Md Omar Faruk said, ‘The series shows the story of a family. There are disagreements, there is struggle, there is a story of principles. Viewers will like it.’
Samira Khan Mahi plays the daughter of the family. In her words, ‘This series is about a family’s struggle. The main story revolves around the character I play. She is a girl from a middle-class family. It shows the struggles of her life. The girl tries to become self-reliant without anyone’s pity. Many talented artistes have acted in the drama. I believe everyone will like Mayar Songsar.’
Another mini-series starring Mahi, ‘Kormofol’, recently finished airing; that too was a family story. On family stories dominating dramas lately, Mahi said, ‘Viewers can relate family stories to themselves. Here the story is not built around one person. Every character matters. You get to work with many artistes, so there is a chance to learn a lot from the seniors. And I myself am more interested in this kind of drama. Now viewers like it too. All in all, I am very happy.’
