Ever since entering films, actress Pori Moni used to celebrate her birthday lavishly with everyone every year. After her maternal grandfather died in 2023, she stepped away from such celebrations. Two years later, Pori Moni has held a birthday event again this time, and on the day she also announced her new film. The film is titled ‘Farzana’ and is directed by Tareq Rahman.
The poster of Farzana was unveiled at the birthday event last Saturday. Pori Moni said the film’s look had been finalised six months ago and most of the shooting is also done. The work had been going on quietly all this time. She chose her birthday for the announcement. In Pori’s words, ‘The film’s look was set six months ago. But because of various problems, the work was taking time to finish. So everyone was not told. If all goes well, shooting will wrap up soon. I felt there could be no better occasion than my birthday to announce a new film.’
Farzana’s screenplay is reportedly written around a woman’s struggle in life, motherhood and the harsh realities around her. Tareq Rahman has written the screenplay as well as directing it. Although he has made a number of TV dramas and short films, this is his first feature film.
Speaking about the film, Tareq Rahman said, ‘It is essentially the story of a woman’s struggle in a lonely life. Life sometimes puts people before such a test that every day becomes a new battle. And if that story of struggle revolves around a woman, then behind each of its chapters may lie some unknown truth, unspoken words and a story of deep emotion. I believe that with this film, Pori Moni will gain fresh recognition from audiences as an actress.’
The filmmaker said Farzana features a new face opposite Pori Moni. Many others, including Sushoma Sarkar, are also acting in it. There are plans to release the film at Eid-ul-Fitr next year after all the work is completed.
Pori Moni’s most recent big-screen release is ‘Felubakshi’. She made her Tollywood debut with this film in January 2025. Reza Ghatak’s government-funded film ‘Dodor Golpo’ is still awaiting release. Besides, Pori has signed on for Shamsul Huda’s ‘Golap’ and Lisa Gazi’s ‘Shasti’. Her hero in Golap is Nirob Hossain, and her co-star in Shasti is Chanchal Chowdhury.
