Media outlets have reported on a meeting between Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar and an intelligence agency official of a country, and the party has issued a statement protesting the reports. Rashed Khan, political assistant to the prime minister, has criticised both that statement and Golam Parwar’s own remarks. Referring to Golam Parwar, he commented, ‘Mia Golam Parwar is stuck in the crack of a split bamboo.’
He wrote this in a Facebook post on Wednesday. In it, Rashed Khan asked whether the language of Jamaat’s statement does not prove that Mia Golam Parwar met the intelligence official. He claimed that the statement nowhere says the meeting did not take place, and that it does not even mention the word India, and he asked why.
In the post, Rashed Khan wrote, ‘Listen, Mia Golam Parwar is stuck in the crack of a split bamboo; if Jamaat tries to protect him, the whole party will have to bear the blame. And from now on, if Jamaat leaders and activists chant the slogan “Delhi, not Dhaka”, the people will answer: hypocrite, hypocrite! Delhi, not Dhaka…. hypocrite, hypocrite!’
Rashed Khan also questioned in the post the way Golam Parwar answered the question about the meeting with the intelligence official.
He wrote, ‘You must have noticed yesterday that when the journalist said he wanted to ask brother Mia Golam Parwar a question, he or someone beside him said, no, no other questions today! Then he hurriedly answered the question about the meeting with the intelligence official and moved on to answer another question! If he was not going to take other questions that day, why did he give a proper answer to the second question without properly answering the first?’
Rashed Khan’s explanation is that the main reason was that Golam Parwar was hesitating on the first question over how many more lies could be told while wearing a cap. He further wrote that he himself was surprised; Jamaat talks about Islam, so does their Islam mean turning truth into lies and lies into truth while wearing a cap, he asked.
The day before, on Tuesday, Mia Golam Parwar protested in a statement the reports in various media outlets about his meeting with an intelligence agency of a country. Describing the reports as a conspiratorial attempt to tarnish the reputation of Jamaat-e-Islami, he strongly condemned and protested them.
The statement said Jamaat-e-Islami practises politics through constitutional means and maintains diplomatic relations with foreign states while upholding the dignity of the state. It protested media reports that the party’s secretary general and former member of parliament Mia Golam Parwar had met an intelligence agency of a country.
In that statement, Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, secretary of Jamaat’s publicity and media department, called for the allegations to be proven. Those accused of spreading false information implicating the secretary general should present the truth of their allegations before the nation, he said. He also said attempts to make Golam Parwar controversial with false information would not succeed.
Jamaat also urged citizens to remain alert to false propaganda and smear campaigns and not to be misled.
