State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku MP has remarked that drugs are being pushed into Bangladesh from India and Myanmar as part of a conspiracy. He alleged that drugs are being brought in in a planned way to destroy the country’s youth.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at an anti-dengue and anti-drug rally organised by the upazila administration at Taj Palace International Convention Centre in Kalindi union of Keraniganj on Thursday (17 September) afternoon.
The state minister said, ‘If drugs cannot be reined in right now, the country’s youth will be destroyed. Families, educational institutions, social organisations and the administration must work together against drugs.’
He urged that students be engaged in studies, sports and creative work to keep them away from drugs. He also called upon everyone in the family and society to be aware of the harmful aspects of drugs.
The state minister also stressed keeping homes and the surrounding environment clean to prevent dengue. He said dengue mosquitoes can breed if water remains stagnant in various containers, green coconut shells or anywhere else. So these places must be kept clean regularly.
Dhaka Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Ms Farida Khanam presided over the rally. Tarikul Islam, additional superintendent of police (crime ops and traffic south) of Dhaka district, and Barrister Irfan Ibne Aman Omi, organising secretary of Dhaka district BNP, spoke as special guests.
Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Umar Faruk was in overall supervision of the event. Heads of various educational institutions of the upazila, scout members, local dignitaries, political leaders and activists and people from different walks of life were present.
