State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said, ‘If we decide that the BNP will keep these streets under its control until 2031, that is, until the next vote, we will be able to do just that. We have that capacity.’
Addressing NCP leaders, he said, ‘Do not threaten the BNP. The BNP does not care about anyone’s threats. What you are doing today is an attempt to invite the fascist Awami League to Bangladesh anew.’
He said this at a cheque distribution programme among flood-affected families in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram on Thursday (24 September) afternoon.
Addressing the leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP), the state minister said, ‘The young generation had an expectation of you – that young leadership would do something good for the country. That is why they even elected you from one or two places. But the language you speak in is not political language.’
He said, ‘The language in which Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, Hasnat Abdullah MP and another one, Patwary, speak at the Rangpur-Bogura and Dhaka-Chattogram long marches, especially when indecorous remarks about our respected leader Tarique Rahman come out of the mouths of young people of that age, those in the BNP who have a single drop of blood in their bodies are not supposed to tolerate such comments.’
The state minister further said, ‘We have been told to be patient, so we are being patient. If we want, we can keep the streets under the BNP’s control until 2031 – we have that capacity. Do not threaten the BNP, the BNP does not care about anyone’s threats. What you are doing today is an attempt to call the fascist Awami League back to Bangladesh anew.’
