The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested Jamaat leader Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman from his own residence. DB Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.
Earlier, on 1 October, a case was filed against him on charges of creating disorder at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, obstructing government work and assaulting a security officer.
Security officer Md Shahriar Alam Sajib filed the case with Airport Police Station. According to the first information report, during tension that arose over a luggage and trolley shortage, Akhtaruzzaman abused and threatened airport officials and at one stage physically assaulted a security officer. A case has been filed over the incident under several sections of the Penal Code.
