Seven suspected militants have been killed in two separate incidents in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. Five were killed in a gunfight with police on the outskirts of Quetta and two more in a security forces operation in the Jusak area of Turbat district.
Several security forces officials gave this information on Wednesday (23 September), Samaa TV reported.
Citing security sources, the media outlet said that when armed men attacked a police checkpost in the Aghbarg area on the outskirts of Quetta, police also fired back. Intense gunfire went on between the two sides for several hours. At one stage, five suspected militants lost their lives in the police counter-operation.
Police said the bodies of the dead have been sent to hospital. Additional police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel have been deployed in the area after the attack. Search and security operations are going on in the vicinity to make sure whether there are any accomplices of the attackers or any other threat.
On the other hand, security forces launched an operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants in the Jusak area of Turbat district. Two militants were killed in an exchange of fire with armed men at that time.
Later, search, clearance and sanitisation operations were conducted in the area to catch the others who fled. Officials said the operation is part of the ongoing anti-militancy drive ‘Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3’.
