A special three-month ‘digital awareness campaign’ has begun across the country to prevent Aedes mosquito-borne dengue. State Minister for Health Dr MA Muhith has called on ordinary citizens and content creators to get actively involved in this campaign, which is running on various social media platforms including Facebook.
In a message today, the state minister for health said dengue cannot be fully controlled through administrative initiatives or by spraying insecticide alone; it requires the personal and social awareness of every person.
Highlighting the wide influence of social media, Dr Muhith said it is the active participation of the public and the dissemination of timely information that can significantly reduce the risk of dengue.
He called on the young generation and social media content creators and influencers in particular to come forward. The state minister for health called for a wide campaign through uploading and sharing awareness-raising content, reels and stories about dengue.
Many content creators have already joined the dengue awareness campaign through the health ministry.
Dr Muhith, an international public health expert, said content creators can easily deliver to people, through creative videos, infographics and posts, essential messages such as what to do to prevent dengue, keeping stagnant water cleared and seeking prompt treatment when symptoms appear. Everyone can play a role in this national initiative by creating awareness-raising content.
Over the next three months, information on destroying Aedes mosquito breeding sites, dengue symptoms and primary treatment will be widely publicised on social media under this digital campaign. Citizens have been requested to keep their own homes, yards and workplaces clean and also to spread awareness messages online.
