Yahya Mirza, head of PR and media at City Bank PLC, has become the new president of the Public Relations Association of Banks (PRAB). Nazrul Islam, head of the public affairs and brand communication division at Dutch-Bangla Bank, has been elected general secretary of the organisation of officials from the country’s bank public relations departments.
A press release said the new leadership was announced last Thursday at a get-together organised by the daily Bonik Barta at a hotel in the capital’s Gulshan.
PRAB’s founding general secretary Moniruzzaman Tipu announced the names of the new president and general secretary. Present at the time were the organisation’s founding president Ataur Rahman, outgoing president Shamsuddoha Shimu and general secretary Jalal Ahmed Swapan, along with senior members.
PRAB began its journey in 2011 with officials from the brand and communication departments of various banks. The organisation is usually run by a 33-member executive committee, formed every two years. Heads of public relations and branding at various commercial banks and senior public relations officials of Bangladesh Bank hold different posts on the committee.
Moniruzzaman Tipu said PRAB’s full 33-member executive committee will be formed at the annual general meeting (AGM) in November.
More than 200 officials working in the public relations departments of all the country’s scheduled banks and financial institutions attended the get-together.
