BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has said that although BNP has been given the responsibility of running the state with the people’s support, it sees this not as power but as a responsibility.

He said this on Saturday (26 September) at a protest rally organised by Mohila Dal in front of BNP’s central office at Nayapaltan.

Nazrul Islam Khan said BNP has always stood by the people of the country in their various hard times. The party has played an effective role in different movements and struggles, including the movement to restore democracy. It is because it stood on the side of the people that the people of the country have repeatedly given BNP support and respect.

Highlighting the recent political situation, he said that in the election last February the people once again placed their trust in BNP and gave it a huge majority. It is with the people’s support that BNP is now in charge of running the state. In his words, ‘This is not power, this is responsibility. BNP does not consider it power, it considers it responsibility.’

He said whenever the country’s economy has been endangered, it is BNP that has carried out the responsibility of restoring and improving it for the welfare of the people. The present government is also trying to take the country’s economy forward.

Nazrul Islam Khan said the main goal of all political and economic programmes of the country should be the welfare of ordinary people. If there is no development and welfare of the people, the activities of no one – political party, government or opposition – have any meaning.

He further said the task of consolidating democracy, achieving economic progress, meeting the people’s needs and easing their hardship is not easy. For this, everyone has to work together.

Calling on the leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal to become more organised, he said they too have a responsibility for the welfare of the people of the country. Public opinion must be built and democratic resistance created against those who work against the interests of the country, create disorder or get involved in terrorism and crime.

Nazrul Islam Khan called for remaining in the field of movement in the days to come as well against terrorism, crime and wrongdoing.

Leaders of Mohila Dal at different levels were present at the rally.
