A trade delegation of 14 Dutch companies is coming to Bangladesh next week to look for investment opportunities in the country’s maritime sector. The team will assess prospects particularly in the Bay of Bengal-centred maritime economy, trade, connectivity, fisheries and energy sectors. The visit is being seen as a promising initiative for attracting foreign investment in Bangladesh’s maritime sector.
Joris van Bommel, the ambassador of the Netherlands in Dhaka, gave this information. He was speaking yesterday, Monday, at a session on the third day of ‘Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026’ organised by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) at the Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.
The ambassador said, ‘A trade delegation of 14 Dutch companies will come to Bangladesh next week. They will explore investment opportunities particularly in the maritime sector.’
Describing the Bay of Bengal as an important arena for regional trade, maritime connectivity, fisheries, energy and economic development, Joris van Bommel said sustainable planning, long-term investment and regional cooperation are needed to tap this potential. Describing water management, climate adaptation and maritime development as interrelated matters, he said integrated planning, technical expertise, long-term investment and cooperation between the government and the people are essential for effective water management.
