Actress Radhika Madan has now spoken publicly about her bitter experience of being criticised for her physique, standing by Katrina Kaif. Bollywood actress Katrina has faced taunts on social media over the changes in her body after becoming a mother. Radhika, too, was once asked after gaining weight how she could ever become a heroine looking like that!
According to a report by an Indian media outlet, Radhika has at times had to gain weight and at other times lose it to meet the demands of her roles. This tough experience also took a toll on her health.
‘Pataakha’ is one of the most important films of Radhika’s career. She had to put on nearly 15 kg for her role in the film. Later, while shooting ‘Shiddat’ and ‘Angrezi Medium’, the actress began trying to shed the extra weight.
However, she faced various complications while juggling the pressure to lose weight with a heavy workload. At that time, she was also mocked for her physique. Radhika said she was asked back then how she would become a heroine with such looks.
According to the actress, her relentless efforts to lose weight left her extremely thin at one point. Handling back-to-back film shoots and the pressure of her changing body at the same time became difficult for her. Gradually, it began to take a toll on her health as well. Eventually, she decided to take a break from work to cope with the situation.
Coming in the wake of the recent criticism surrounding Katrina, Radhika’s experience has reignited the debate over society’s harsh expectations about the bodies of actresses in the entertainment industry. Many actresses share the same experience — they face taunts if they gain weight, and there is no escape from criticism even if they lose it.
