Actor RJ Mitte, who found fame playing Walter White Jr in the popular American series ‘Breaking Bad’, has died. His representatives confirmed the death of the 34-year-old actor. Grief has spread over the passing of the artist who became a favourite of millions of viewers by overcoming disability on screen.
The report said Mitte’s representatives confirmed the death of the familiar face of Hollywood television. He died in Brownsville in the US state of Texas. Suicide has been cited as the cause of death.
Mitte gained worldwide recognition through ‘Breaking Bad’, which began airing in 2008. He played the son of Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston. By bringing out the character’s innocence, family tensions and personal struggles, he won a place in viewers’ hearts. The star acted in all five seasons of the series.
Beyond acting, Mitte’s life story was also inspiring. He had cerebral palsy in real life, the same physical condition his character went through on screen. Although he faced physical complications in childhood, he did not let his limitations become a barrier to fulfilling his dreams; on the contrary, he turned his own experience into a strength in his acting.
Mitte was also vocal about establishing the rights of people with disabilities and increasing their participation in the entertainment world. He worked to make the portrayal of disabled characters on screen realistic and to change the prevailing negative perceptions about them. Through his own experience, he showed that physical disability is not the last word on anyone’s talent or potential.
The actor, born in Jackson in the state of Mississippi, also went through various challenges in childhood. Brain damage at birth caused his physical complications. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three, after which he grew up with an adoptive family. Overcoming these adversities in life, Mitte made a place for himself in the acting world.
After the success of ‘Breaking Bad’, he worked in several films and TV series, notably ‘Switched at Birth’, ‘The Recall’, ‘The Oak Room’ and ‘The Guardians of Justice’. He proved his skill by playing a variety of roles.
Mitte was also involved in charitable work. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and also took part in various initiatives through his own charity, the ‘Mitte Foundation’. Improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and building a more inclusive environment for them was one of the main aims of his work.
Before his death, Mitte was busy promoting his new film ‘Talking to Strangers’, in which he plays a person with cerebral palsy. Besides attending a screening of the film in late September, he was also seen at an event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in early October.
He was also weaving new dreams in his personal life. He began a relationship with Kennedy Suarez in 2018, and Mitte became engaged to his longtime girlfriend in 2025.
