The England cricket team have risen to the top of the ICC T20 rankings, overtaking world champions India.
In the current rankings, England and India both have the same rating of 269. However, India have played 64 matches and England 41. By this count, India’s points are 17,201 and England’s 11,021. The English have taken the top spot for having played fewer matches.
India recently whitewashed Afghanistan in a three-match series at home. England, on the other hand, whitewashed Sri Lanka in a three-match series at home last night. It is on the back of a superb performance against the Lankans that they have risen to the top.
England had also risen to the top in July this year by beating India 4-0 in a five-match series at home.
Third to seventh places in the rankings are held respectively by Australia (rating of 260 from 38 matches), New Zealand (rating of 247 from 50 matches), South Africa (rating of 243 from 53 matches), Pakistan (rating of 240 from 57 matches) and West Indies (rating of 234 from 56 matches).
Bangladesh are in eighth place on the list with a rating of 224 from 53 matches. Sri Lanka (rating of 220 from 47 matches) and Afghanistan (rating of 220 from 39 matches) are in ninth and tenth places.
