State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has ordered an increase in the production of improved-breed chicks (DOC) at the Central Poultry Farm in the capital’s Mirpur. At the same time, he has asked for necessary steps to make the farm’s management more effective, quickly renovate unusable sheds and resolve the manpower shortage.
He gave these directives today while paying a surprise visit to the Central Poultry Farm. During the visit, the state minister went round the farm’s various sheds, hatchery, feed factory and other activities. He learnt in detail from the officials concerned about the overall activities including production of improved-breed chicks, sale of chicks and eggs and production of poultry feed.
Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said proper use of the projects that have been taken up for development must be ensured. Besides making the farm’s management good and effective, production must be increased further.
He said marginal farmers collect the chicks produced here, rear them and sell them. As a result, the more chick production increases, the more marginal farmers will benefit. This will also make it possible to play a role in meeting the country’s demand for animal protein.
The state minister said if chick production can be increased at this farm, the shortage of chicks and instability in the market will decrease. For this, the production of improved-breed chicks and the activities of supplying them to marginal farmers must be further strengthened.
During the visit, as several sheds for rearing chickens and chicks had become unusable, the state minister ordered that they be renovated quickly. He also asked for quick measures to remove the manpower shortage.
At this time, the state minister also checked whether employees are coming to the office on time and what the attendance rate is. He also observed the progress and implementation status of the various projects taken up for the farm’s development.
Ferdousi Ahmed, member of parliament from a reserved women’s seat, Department of Livestock Services Director General Md Shahzaman Khan, Central Poultry Farm Director Zinat Sultana, Department of Livestock Services Project Director Abdur Rahim, Assistant Director (Goat Farms) Dr Kabir Uddin Ahmed and other officials concerned were present during the visit.
