‘Old alliance active anew’, attempt to destabilise government is planned: State Minister Amit

Anindya Islam Amit, state minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, does not see the attempt to destabilise the government as an isolated incident.
In his words, an old alliance has taken to the field anew and is trying to destabilise the seven-month-old government. It is nothing isolated; rather, it is part of a well-planned scheme to destabilise the changed government before and after the election.
He said these things in his speech as chief guest at a discussion meeting organised by the district BNP at Meherpur Municipal Community Centre at around 4pm on Thursday.
Anindya Islam Amit said although many of the new generation do not know the history of the alliance of ‘hidden and dormant’ organisations, veteran political leaders know it very well. The country’s political situation was extremely important during the anti-autocracy movement of the eighties and when the aspiration for a new Bangladesh was taking shape.
He said that at that time Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia on one side and Sheikh Hasina on the other were in the movement and struggle. Who stabbed national unity in the back at that time is also part of history. Bringing forward the history of who took part in Ershad’s stage-managed election in 1986 will give an idea of the old alliance of the ‘hidden and dormant’ organisations.
The state minister alleged that a particular political group has long been trying to obstruct the people’s voting rights. He said, ‘Remember, they have more anger towards the people of Bangladesh than even towards BNP.’
He further said that those who have no faith in the ideals of Bangladesh’s independence and in the democratic system are the ones who practised the politics of curtailing voting rights. If they had believed in a democratic Bangladesh, they would not have organised the 2014 election. He also described the allegation raised later of holding the day’s vote at night as part of their political practice.
Amit said the people of the country are now far more aware of voting rights and democratic rights than before. Politics must be done by placing trust in the people. There is no scope to ignore public opinion by spreading conspiracy or confusion.
With Meherpur district BNP president Javed Masud Milton in the chair and general secretary Advocate Kamrul Hasan conducting the meeting, BNP’s Khulna divisional assistant organising secretary Babu Jayanta Kumar Kundu addressed the meeting.
The special guests were Masud Arun, former president of the district BNP and former member of parliament, and Alhaj Amzad Hossain, former general secretary and former member of parliament. Leaders and activists of various levels of the district BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations were also present at the meeting.
