State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said an attempt is under way to mislead people through the activities of the 11-party alliance. By taking two to three thousand vehicles and wasting lakhs of litres of oil and gas, they are engaged in an ill attempt to spread confusion among ordinary people.
He said this in his speech as the chief guest at a brief roadside rally held after laying the foundation stone of the strengthening and repair work of the Boro Dargah to Vendabari road in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur at 12 noon on Tuesday.
On the electricity and gas crisis, the state minister said the present government is now having to handle the very crisis created during the tenure of the previous fascist Sheikh Hasina government. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed regret for this situation. Yet, before six months of the government’s formation are complete, an elected government is being threatened with being toppled.
He said bringing down the government is not so easy. After going through many ups and downs over 20 years, we have formed the government under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. This seat is the people’s seat. This government, established with the people’s support, cannot be removed easily.
The state minister further said, we want to work for the people for five years. After that we will go to the people to seek votes. If they like the work, people will vote for us; if not, they will not. It is the people who will decide who will run the country.
Addressing the 11-party alliance including Jamaat-e-Islami, he said no activities should be carried out that pave the way for the return of autocrat Sheikh Hasina. The people of this country will not let Sheikh Hasina return to power again, nor will they accept any such conspiracy.
Stating that the government is committed to fulfilling the people’s expectations, he said the government is working to deliver the benefits of development to every region of the country. In continuation of this, various initiatives are also being taken to develop Rangpur’s road communication system.
He said the BNP believes in balanced development across the country. Like other regions, development activities will be taken forward in Rangpur as well. People will be able to see the benefits of the government’s development activities in the next four and a half years.
The state minister said, we cannot give you a guarantee of heaven; to attain heaven one has to worship Almighty Allah. We want to give a guarantee of development, and you will be able to see that development in the next four and a half years.
It is hoped that once the strengthening and repair work of the Boro Dargah to Vendabari road is completed, travel for the people of this region will become easier and safer. At the same time, it will also have a positive impact on local trade and commerce and economic activity.
Officials of the local administration, political leaders and activists, public representatives and dignitaries of the area were present at the event.
