Raima Sen, the popular actress of West Bengal, will turn 47 in a few days. Yet she has still not tied the knot. Is it fear of marriage, or regret at not finding her soulmate? The actress spoke candidly about the matter in a recent interview.
Asked whether she had not married because she could not have her favourite Hollywood star Tom Cruise, Raima laughed and said her sister also jokes about this. In her words, there is no one as such in Kolkata, and she does not go outside the city much either. To tell the truth, at this age she does not feel the urge to marry either; rather, she even worries about getting involved in a relationship.
On her mother’s worries about her daughter’s marriage, Raima said her mother used to think about these things earlier. Now, seeing the state of the country and the world, she instead forbids her to marry. Her mother’s advice: do not force anything; if loneliness takes hold later, adopt a few children.
The actress has also thought out what she will do if she ever wishes to become a mother. She said she loves children very much, but the fear of whether she will be able to manage everything is also at work. One cannot tell the heart’s wishes in advance; even if there is no wish today, there may be tomorrow. Thinking of all that, she had her eggs preserved (egg freezing) long ago. Raima’s clear view is that marriage is not needed just to become a mother.
Incidentally, ‘The Eken: Keralay Kurukshetra’, starring Raima, is awaiting release. Anirban Chakrabarti is in the title role. Rajesh Sharma, Ambarish Bhattacharya and Arna Mukherjee have acted in other roles. Directed by Joydeep Mukherjee, the film will be released on 15 October if everything goes well.
