The positive trend in income sent by expatriates is continuing. In September this year, expatriates sent $2.745 billion to the country through legal means and banking channels.
In Bangladeshi currency, the amount is about Tk 33,695 crore (counting each dollar at Tk 122.75).
This information was given in an updated report published by Bangladesh Bank on Thursday (1 October).
A review of the central bank’s data shows that remittance inflow increased this September compared with the same period last year. Expatriate income of $2.686 billion had come to the country in September 2025. By that count, the increase over a year is about 2.2 percent.
Although the inflow rose in September as a single month, strong growth has been seen in expatriate income in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. In the three months from July to September, expatriates sent a total of $8.571 billion to the country.
In the same period of the previous fiscal year, this figure was $7.586 billion. By that count, expatriate income grew by about 13 percent in the first three months of the current fiscal year.
According to economists, the foreign currency sent by expatriates is playing an important role in tackling the various challenges of the country’s macroeconomy. If policy support can be continued to sustain this trend, the foreign exchange reserves may become stronger.
