BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that a conspiracy is under way to create anarchy, bombings and sabotage using illegal money laundered abroad and hoarded at home during the rule of the autocratic Awami League government.
He made the allegation at a discussion and award ceremony titled ‘The role of politicians and professionals in the long anti-autocracy movement and the July uprising’, organised by the Bangladesh Jana Adhikar Party at the Institution of Engineers auditorium in the capital today, Tuesday.
According to Rizvi, the defeated fascist forces want to disrupt the ongoing progress by creating instability in the country. He claimed that to this end, attempts are being made to use black money inside the country as well as money laundered abroad.
He said pro-democracy political parties and ordinary people must stay alert day and night about this. However, he also noted that the current government and law enforcement agencies are alert and working to foil the conspirators’ plans.
Criticising the rule of the Awami League government, the BNP leader said various sectors of the country, including banking and insurance, were damaged during Sheikh Hasina’s rule. He claimed that the amount of defaulted loans in the country now stands at Tk 6.07 lakh crore. He also alleged that people close to the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina looted state money in the name of loans.
Rizvi said the current government is working to rebuild the country despite the huge debt burden and fragile economic situation.
Praising the role of the youth in the July uprising, he said the boundless courage of the young opened the way to restoring democracy in the country; the state and the nation will remember their contribution with respect forever.
On religious harmony, Rizvi said Bangladesh has long been a country of religious and communal harmony. Political parties and civil society must stay alert together so that Durga Puja, the main religious festival of the Hindu community, is celebrated smoothly and safely. He also remarked that no evil force can be allowed to destroy communal harmony.
Presided over by Bangladesh Jana Adhikar Party Chairman Mohammad Ismail Samrat, the meeting was attended as special guests by BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, BNP Chairman’s Advisory Council member Moazzem Hossain Alal, Gano Forum acting president Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Revolutionary Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque, Janatar Dal member secretary Tarique Rahman, BNP National Executive Committee youth affairs secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu and others.
