China’s 13-year-old swimmer Yu Zidi has set a Games record along with winning gold with a brilliant performance at the Asian Games.
The schoolgirl, who is set to turn 14 next month, set the Games record by clocking 2 minutes 5.08 seconds in the women’s 200m butterfly.
This is the first major title of her career. China is dreaming even bigger about her at the Los Angeles Olympics two years from now.
After winning the medal, a smiling Yu said, ‘It went okay.’
Last year, at the age of just 12, Yu became the youngest medallist in the history of the World Aquatics Championships by winning bronze in a relay event.
Swimming is one of the three sports of this Asian Games being held in Tokyo. The rest of the Games’ competitions are being held in Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture.
China are being considered the strongest team in the swimming pool. They won six of the seven golds on the first day.
