The upazila administration in Kalkini of Madaripur has taken an exceptional initiative by handing over tree saplings to the families of newborns. Keeping in front the slogan ‘Today’s child is the life of tomorrow, a sapling is new life for the earth’, the families of newborns who came for treatment at various clinics were each given a tree sapling as a gift.
The programme was observed on Saturday (19 September) afternoon, organised by the upazila administration and funded by Kalkini Municipality. As the chief guest, Kishore Kumar Das, administrator of Kalkini Municipality and upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), handed over the saplings to the families of the newborns.
Kalkini Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Saidul Bashar, Kalkini Khidma Hospital Director Anis Molla and Jubo Dal leader Mubin, along with officials and employees of the municipality, were present at the time.
The organisers said the purpose of this initiative is to encourage families to plant trees and raise awareness of environmental protection by gifting a tree sapling with the birth of every child. The families of the newborns are also viewing the initiative positively.
