A protest procession has been held in front of the Uttara residence of Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Quader, demanding his arrest.
Students and people of the area as well as ordinary citizens joined the programme, held under the banner of ‘Anti-Autocracy General Public’.
Taking position on the road in front of the residence, the protesters chanted various slogans and demanded GM Quader’s trial.
The procession’s banner showed ‘a portrait of GM Quader imprisoned in jail’. It read: ‘Betraying the blood of the July martyrs by keeping contact with fascist killer Hasina; we want GM Quader’s arrest’ and ‘Fascism will find no home in this Bangla’.
The protesters alleged that although students and people brought about change through a mass uprising in July-August at the cost of hundreds of lives, the top leadership of the Jatiya Party is still secretly maintaining contact with the ousted Awami League and Sheikh Hasina, who is in India.
According to the speakers, the Jatiya Party lent political legitimacy to the previous government by taking part in three national elections. They said no collaborator of fascism will be allowed to be rehabilitated politically in the new Bangladesh.
The protesters demanded that the government immediately bring GM Quader under the purview of law and put him on trial.
